Tanzania is a year-round safari destination. No month is wrong. Every month has a specific logic — what the ecosystem is doing, which parks perform best, and what the landscape looks and feels like.
The dry season from June through October concentrates wildlife at permanent water sources. The Tarangire River becomes the elephant magnet. The Mara River crossings attract the wildebeest herd. The Southern Circuit parks reach peak density.
The green season from November through May is the most significant missed opportunity in Tanzania travel. The calving season from January through March is by many measures more extraordinary than the crossings — with fewer visitors and lower rates.

The crossing season (July–October) is the most marketed event. The probability of witnessing a crossing during a correctly positioned three-night stay is approximately 88–91% in August and September.
The calving season (January–March) is what most experienced guides describe as more extraordinary. Half a million calves in three weeks. The predator activity is more intense and more sustained. We advise honestly on which is more likely to satisfy based on your interests.

Peak season camps book 12–18 months ahead. The first conversation about a July safari ideally happens the previous July or August, not in April.

Green season months offer the same parks, guides, and vehicles at 30–50% below peak. The Serengeti in November is as beautiful as any other month and significantly less crowded.
Tell us your travel window and what you want to observe. We tell you honestly what each month produces.

Long rains March–May, short rains November–December. The short rains are lighter and more predictable. November and December are among the most underrated months for Tanzania travel.
The core northern circuit parks remain accessible year-round. We advise honestly on what each month involves and what the trade-offs look like for your specific circuit.

Most clients have fixed travel dates. The conversation is about designing the best circuit for those dates — not convincing clients to travel in a different month.
We tell clients what their specific month actually looks like — not what the seasonal chart says, but what our guides are observing in the parks during your travel window.

The geological enclosure prevents the wildlife dispersal that affects every other park. Wildlife concentration remains high year-round, roads remain passable, and the rim views are available every month. If you have fixed dates outside peak season, designing around Ngorongoro as the anchor is the most reliable approach.
